Lord Rochester bestowing a garland of laurel upon his monkey.

Earl of Rochester: Selected Works

Nota bene: Most of Rochester's poems were intended for a coterie audience, and were not prepared for publication; other poems found their way to poetic miscellanies.  In order to establish better order and categorization on this page, I have used the structure created by Harold Love for his definitive edition of  The Works of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, OUP 1999.

Poetry

Disputed Works

*Signior Dildo    [You Ladies all of merry England]

"Appendix Roffensis"

Nota bene: Again here using Harold Love's precedent:
"These are either poems by other writers that have attached themselves in an organic way to the Rochester corpus, or poems which have at one stage or another been attributed to Rochester for other than trivial reasons, and cannot be shown not to be his work."
Love, Harold. "Introduction."  The Works of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester.
Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1999. xxii.

Poems
*One Writing against His Prick    [Base metal hanger by your master's thigh!]
*His Highnesse Conversion by Father Patricke    [Betweene Father Patricke]
*To his Mistress.    [Why dost thou shade thy lovely face]
*Pindarick    [Let Ancients boast no more]

Impromptus
*[Impromptu on Charles II] *On Cary Frazer 1677.    [Her Father gave her Dildoes six]
